Mug Rugs for Janice's Nurses

Janice's nurses have treated her so well, she wanted to give them a gift, so she asked me to make mug rugs for them.  I have eight blocks done; now I will 'sandwich' them with batting and backing, quilt them, and put the binding on.  They'd make a pretty combined quilt, if I added one more block, wouldn't they?

Hmmm...  I need a design wall that doesn't blend in with the blocks!

Black Cat Mug Rug

I asked some ladies on online quilting groups to help me name this mug rug.  I wanted something simple – about two words – and nothing 'Halloweenish', despite the black and orange color scheme.  This is the name I chose from the many suggestions.  Thank you for the numerous ideas, some of which will come in handy for later projects.

Above is a photo of my Black Kitty, taken just this afternoon at the door of my sewing room, where she likes to lay when I am trotting back and forth from the marble table on which my newer Bernina sits to the smaller sewing room.  I think she hopes I'll trip over her, and then be obligated to spend some time apologizing.  Black Kitty much enjoys apologies.

Black Kitty.  She can never lie still when I'm taking her picture; she must come and try to clamber up into my lap.  Animals don't much appreciate things pointing at them, especially when those 'things' suddenly produce blinding flashes!

Black Kitty is 15 years old.

Basset Hound Mug Rug

The pattern for this mug rug was a pencil sketch, fifth photo in each slide show, in the little frame.  There is an ongoing debate among the locals at my house over whether or not the dog on the mug, the rug, and in the sketch is a Basset or a Beagle.  Now, I know the ears on the mug aren't long enough, but they would've had to make the cup a pedestaled mug with lopped-out ears as the pedestal, in order to get the proportions right.  And the pencil sketch was labeled 'Basset Hound', so I refuse to take the blame if it's wrong.

Larry looked at the mug rug silently for a minute, and politely allowed as how it was too bad I didn't have more plain brown, black, and beige fabric.

Hummph.  It's a quilt.  Quilts can be any color or print they chose, so there.

On the other hand, maybe I should take his remark as license to go fabric shopping.
<gleeful sniggle>

Anyway, Basset or Beagle, here it is in all its printed-fabric glory.

Aster Mug Rug

Alpine Asters are one of my favorite flowers.  I took the above photo in 1999 just north of Almont, Colorado.
