LaVonne's Curtains

A former coworker asked me to hem and redo a couple sets of curtains, and also to remake some long, dusty blue chiffon panels into something with more pizzazz for her cadet blue bathroom.  From 84" long, I cut off 20", then gathered the curtain up until they measured 36" long at the bottom of the scallops.  I used some of the fabric I'd cut off to make the rosettes.

For each rosette, I cut a strip about 60" long by 3" wide.  I folded this strip in doubles and then thirds until it was 4" x 3" and several layers thick.  Then I took off the corners so that one side of the strip was somewhat scalloped, like the petals of a rose.  Next, using the flame of a candle, I melted the edges just enough that they curled a bit.  After tapering one end to make the center of the rose, and running a gathering stitch along the straight edge, I pulled the gathering thread until the strip was reduced to 21", then rolled it, starting with the tapered end, and making sure the top edges curled toward the outside, as rose petals do.

I sewed the bottom gathered edge together securely, and then pinned each rosette to the top of the gathers I'd made in the curtains.

More Monograms

I've just finished monogramming four dozen handkerchiefs -- eight sets of six -- for the menfolk of the family for Christmas.  While my machine, the Bernina Artista 180, embroidered, I got a tall stack of mending done on the other machine, my old trusty Bernina 830 Record.  Two sewing machines going at once!  Pretty nifty.  Now, if I just had a computerized quilting machine, I could have three machines going at once.

Monogrammed Handkerchiefs

Note to self:  "Center things, center things, center things!"
(I thought I done larnt that in Jr. High Home Ec class?)
I'll do better next time!  I have 8 more sets of 6.

Emma's Ironing Board Cover

Here's Emma's little ironing board.  We have a small iron that was an honest-to-goodness travel iron/steamer -- but the switch didn't work, so Larry removed the cord, and now it's a cute little toy to go with the the ironing board.  Should've taken a picture of it -- but it's all wrapped up.

The heart with her name embroidered on it was the very first thing I embroidered with my 'new' Bernina 180 Artista.

Adult Bib #2

Bib #2 is done.  This is for my customer's son, who has liked
the Speed Racer cartoon since he was a little boy.

Adult Bibs

A customer has asked me to make a couple of gag gifts
for her son and his brother-in-law for Christmas:  adult bibs.

The first one is done; the second one nearly so.  Here is #1:

1st Embroidery with 180

Here is my first embroidery with my Bernina Artista 180.

This will be part of the ironing board cover for Emma's Little Tikes ironing board that we will give her for Christmas, along with a cute little travel iron that was nearly new when it quit working.  Larry removed the cord from it.
