Blanket Stitch on Iris Appliqué
The iris appliqués are stitched down. I won't quilt it yet, as someday I will incorporate it into a quilt.
Hearts Mug Rug
Thinking I'd better bring an easier design than the 37-piece irises appliqué pattern to the quilting group next Monday, I drew up a little heart mug rug. Now the ladies will be able to make this one, should they prefer, or use it as a practice run before trying the irises.
I used a couple pieces of sewn-together strips, left over from another project.

Iris Appliqué
I have been invited to show my Graceful Garden quilt to a quilting group Monday, September 14, give a tutorial on my appliqué method, and present a trunk show of my quilted items. I decided to draw up a pattern and type instructions for the ladies who will attend. The instructions are done, and here are photos of the appliqué work:

Sticky bottom of Clover mini iron
Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner works its magic
In between uses, I rest the hot mini iron in a cup, because...
... the stand didn't do its job so swell. After the hot iron sat on it for a couple of hours, the iron heated the metal part of the stand, and the hot metal melted the plastic base. By the time I went to find the source of the burning plastic odor, the little iron was resting flat against the base, and it was a soft, gooey mess.
Background fabric is placed on the pattern... another pattern at the side for reference while placing the pieces.

I will do a blanket stitch around all the pieces tomorrow, insert the photos into the tutorial, and print enough for the ladies at the quilting group.

Sizzix Big Shot for Hester
I got a notice from the
place where I ordered Hester’s birthday gift, a Sizzix Big Shot: they had just shipped it, and it would arrive
June 11th. Bah, humbug! I’d ordered it two days earlier, and there
should have been plenty of time for it to get here by her birthday, June 8th! I sent her a note:
Subject: ♫ ♪ Always Late, lalala ♫ ♪
Bother!
I ordered your birthday gift Sunday – and they just shipped it out tonight, so
it won’t get here until Thursday, June 11th!
It’s
your fault for not making me think of what you’d like sooner. :-D
Love,
,,,>^..^<,,,
Mama ,,,>^..^<,,,
P.S.:
When I email your gmail address, does your phone make noise and wake you up?
P.S.S.: Oh, yikes, good grief, if your phone doesn’t
wake you up, Tabby will! He just shrieked loud enough, you should’ve
heard him all the way in town. He had a fuss with Teensy – and Teensy
raked a quiff off his head and made a deep scratch right above his eye. Cats!
Hester responded the next
morning with her usual “Lololol!” and told me that no, her phone doesn’t
wake her up. I spent the next few days
being disappointed that her birthday present was going to be late – but it was delivered today, shortly before
noon! Goody, goody coff drops (à la
Victoria, age 3). It is now wrapped and ready to be delivered. (The Big Shot; not the cough drops.)
I took her the gift tonight. I'm looking forward to seeing what she creates with it!
Here it is, wrapped -- that Gurney's catalog has enough pages to nicely cover three big boxes! The bows always look different, depending on length and width of loops.
